Jen Sincero‘s ‘You Are a Badass‘ is a nice introduction to the concept of manifestation. It’s a sweet pep-talk; a good book to read when you don’t know what to do with yourself, aren’t sure what you want and how to get to do what you love. So if you don’t mind a pep-talk tone it can be very motivational.

Sincero’s main points are:

  1. Make spirituality your foundation. Consider
  2. Figure out what’s your unique purpose – pay attention to what lights you up, imagine your perfect day and how you’d live your life if nothing could stop you or limit you.
  3. Know what you want but be flexible about how you get there.
  4. Start living as if you’re already living your dream life. Surround yourself with people who are successful in areas that you lack in and start doing things your dream self would do. If your surroundings (things AND friends) don’t fit the life you want, change them.
  5. Practice gratitude – regularly think of things that you’re thankful for; list them out or repeat them to yourself daily so you remember the good things in life instead of the negative ones.
  6. Forgive yourself and others – let your emotions out, talk to people who hurt you and let go of the past that keeps you stuck.
  7. Stop comparing yourself to others and stop with the self depreciation. Never apologize for who you are.
  8. Done is better than perfect – just start doing the things you need to do.

I have some issues with it obviously. Some of the comments Sincero makes in the book feel very dismissive of mental health problems. Aside from that, it has the same big problem as other books about the Law of Attraction – the mentality of ‘if you’re poor, or sick, or have serious life problems, it’s kind of your own fault’.

But if all that and a ‘you can do it!’ attitude don’t bother you, try it out!
